Touchscreen-controlled dosing with ±0.001 g precision for consistent battery cell manufacturing

Overview

The Automated Powder Dispenser is a touchscreen controlled system designed to deliver precise doses of powder into battery cells. By combining an Arduino Mega, a high‐precision HX711 load cell, and a custom auger mechanism, it achieves repeatable ±0.001g precision. The dispenser uses a user-friendly interface allowing for on the fly target weight adjustments and scale calibration.

Problem

In battery cell manufacturing, manual powder-dosing methods are inconsistent and inefficient. This results in uneven material distribution and variability in cell performance. Yet achieving ±0.001 g dosing precision is critical for repeatability and quality.

Key Requirements

  • Dispense powder in the range of 1 mg to 2 g
  • Uniformly spread the powder up to 1 mm thickness
  • Run independently – 100% automated 
  • Start/Stop, adjust desired target weight, and allow for  scale calibration functionality

  • A4988 Stepper Driver for Auger
  • ULN2003 + 28BYJ-48 Stepper Motor for Base
  • Vibration motors (Transistor Controlled)
